Hi Nadia, what a pleasure to see you here. I have not read ‘Nudge’ but thank you for the recommendation. I am familiar with the work and saw that a new edition was published last year. It’s now ordered and on my list. The Amazon algo also recommended Thinking Fast and Slow, which I have read, so perhaps I’m on the right track. I think book reading for self-initiated learning has been gradually wrestled away from many of us in stealth, while we were sleeping the past two decades. I have a notional plan to write a post at some point on how I know this to be the case. The short answer is that the past two years could not have happened if more people were reading books. I fear today’s youth have been especially robbed of this essential avenue of inquiry. This is an enormous trap with grave implications.

Dr. Mattias Desmet, the Belgian professor of clinical psychology at Ghent University, with his focus on Mass Formation Psychosis, reckons that about 30% of the population is at least partially awake to what is really happening in the world right now, that another 30% are firmly in the propaganda induced psychosis, and that the all-important 40% in the middle are fluid. Based on my readings, Desmet seems to be a kind of Joost Merloo of our times. Echoes of Arendt are also in his work, which is not surprising given the title of his upcoming book. Very best, Dave
